Address Verification System (AVS) monitoring is important for many reasons. AVS Monitoring can allow you to lower the fraud on your platform, reducing the number of chargebacks. Furthermore, if you pass in the AVS fields to WorldPay, you can lower interchange billed to you, increasing profits.
As you start to build out your PayFac organization, there are multiple options to configure how you want your Address Verification System to work.
Both Finix Payments and WorldPay offer AVS monitoring services.
WorldPay AVS Monitoring
WorldPay has an extensive AVS monitoring suite to help flag cards that have incorrect addresses or incorrect Zip Codes. These items are directly pulled from the Issuing Bank at the time of an Authorization in our API.
WorldPay offers four options from you to choose from.
1. ZIP Only
In the ZIP Only scenario, credit cards that are entered and do not match the ZIP on file with the Issuing Bank will be declined by WorldPay's AVS Monitoring System.
2. Address Match Only
In the Address Match Only Scenario, Credit cards that are entered and do not match the Address on file with the Issuing Bank will be declined by WorldPay's AVS Monitoring System.
3. Address Match + ZIP
In the address + Zip only scenario, Credit Cards that are entered and do not match BOTH the Address and Zip on file with the Issuing Bank will be declined by WorldPay's AVS Monitoring System.
4. No Match***
In certain scenarios, you may not want to have any AVS declines but still pass in the data to WorldPay for many reasons (we will not go into this). WorldPay offers an option for you not to process declines for Address Mismatches or Zip Mismatches. This is something you should explore with your Payment Facilitator Consultant or email your Relationship Manager.
See the attachments attached to this article for more information.
How do I configure my WorldPay AVS System?
In order to configure the settings, you have to reach out to your Relationship Manager. At the moment, there isn't a UI on Vanitv iQ to easily change the settings. As a result, contacting your Relationship Manager is the only way to change these settings.
Finix Payments AVS Monitoring
Within Finix Payments, we check to see whether there is an AVS Match and note that on the Payment Instrument of the Card. Depending on the risk settings for that merchant, transactions on that Payment Instrument can be blocked. See information on configuring a merchant's risk profile here.
